PTAC heat pump works very well in West Tennessee. Quieter than previous GE unit. Could easily convert heater to fit my breaker size by substituting optional cord. Comes standard with 30 amp plug but my outlet is 20- amp but optional cord automatically adjusts heater output to match breaker size. Very easy to install into existing GE wall sleeve. Just make sure to remove shipping screw from fresh air duct before installing in sleeve. Also told by tech at Friedrich to verify insulation on outside of condenser matches the exterior grill so it seals properly. Mine did. AC Wholesalers shipped the day after I ordered and heat pump arrived in 3 days.

The machine itself is very good (or has been for the couple of weeks I've used it.) Very fast at warming the apartment up, extremely quiet and although I haven't needed the AC, seems to work well as well. I'm happy. One thing though- it DOES come with a 30amp plug. I was told to purchase a separate one and told, incorrectly, it doesn't come with one so I had 2 30amp plugs. Also, make sure you know what amp plug you need. I was told, based on my description, that my outlet was fitted for a 30 amp plug when it most definitely wasn't. So I ended up having to wait for the company to send me another one (a 20 amp plug)- during the coldest week of the year thus far. Very frustrating. If you need a lesser amp (this is apparently a flexible machine where you can use a 15 or 20 amp plug too, but the kw electric heater goes down. 30 amps give you 5 kw electric heater, 20 amp gives you 3.5kw electric and 15 amps gives you 3.0, I believe. Thank goodness for the flexibility though- I hate to see what would happen if I had to return this huge machine!
